AGO Convention
A big week is about to happen in Minneapolis. The American Guild of Organists is holding their National Convention in our fair city with lots of events that will be open to the public (click here for the schedule).
The opening celebration will the the church service at Central Lutheran Church in downtown Minneapolis. Musical highlights of the evening will include works by Minnesota composers Stephen Paulus (AGO Composer of the Year), Dominick Argento, and Libby Larsen, as well as anthems by Steven Stucky and Stephen Fraser. Both the Larsen and Stucky pieces were commissioned for the 2008 National Convention. The Fraser anthem is the winning entry of the AGO/ECS Publishing Award in Choral Composition.
All of the downtown church choirs will be participating as well as brass choir and organ and 47-bell carillon and takes place Sunday evening, June 22nd beginning at 6:30pm.
Next on the agenda will be a Russian Vespers sung by The Rose Ensemble at St. Olaf Church in Minneapolis on Monday morning, June 23rd at 11am and also on Thursday afternoon at 2pm.
This all leads up to the grand finale on Thursday evening at the Cathedral in St. Paul - a concert of massive scale with singers from VocalEssence, The National Lutheran Choir, Magnum Chorum and The Minnesota Boys Choir.
I will be one of six soloists to perform Siegfried Matthus’ Te Deum in its US premier along with full orchestra. For more information and complete program visit http://www.ago2008.org/HTML/Artists/FinalConcert.html.

Countdown to Italy!
The time is approaching! Just a few more days (June 3rd) and The Rose Ensemble embarks on its 3rd European tour. This time we will be at the La Fabbrica del Canto International Choral Festival in Legnano, Italy just outside of Milan. We are honored to be the only vocal ensemble representing the United States at this prestigious festival and will be performing a concert every day from June 5th-June 16th. See my Show Schedule for further details.
Our concerts will include music from the Slavic traditions as well as Early American and Hawaiian. For more information about The Rose Ensemble, visit the official website www.RoseEnsemble.org.
A great rehearsal for this tour will be a concert at The Fitzgerald Theater with our friend, Dan Choinard on May 31st. Join great musicians Maria Jette, Peter Ostroushko, Dirk Freymuth, Josette Antomarchi, John Munson, the Rose Ensemble, and the Brass Messengers for an entertaining evening of storytelling exploring the musical byways of the Old World, from majestic cathedral to street cafe, from crowded train car to raucous bar. More info and tickts at The Fitzgerald’s website.
Art-A-Whirl, NE Minneapolis
Wow, even more great news… I am going to be featured in the NE Minneapolis Art-a-Whirl this Spring! If you’ve never attended any of the shows, I must encourage you to come out. What a beautiful show last night. The ambiance couldn’t have been more perfect with the lights gently dimming from piece to piece. My wonderful comrades performed impeccably and the crowd couldn’t have been more gracious allowing us to sing without applause throughout the evening. Cell phones were also hushed thanks to opening remarks from our Board president, Jim Kellison.
It was a strong showing (don’t have the numbers yet, but I would venture to guess around 600.) Linda Kachelmeier’s new piece was stunning and received quite the acclamations from our local audiences as well as Birmingham. She should be quite proud. My husband was also proud to be able to hear me sing one of the opening solo lines in her work.
Thanks to the staff of the Basilica for the wonderful sound, and to all of our volunteers & staff who work so hard to help us pull off concerts such as these.
On to the last round on Friday in Superior and Saturday in LaCrosse, Wisconsin!
